Jonathan Paul Green is an award winning, UK based Production Designer with over 33 years in the entertainment industry
With a huge wealth of experience in many Film & TV genres, Jonathan has built a reputation as an innovative, collaborative and dependable choice within the industry
Jonathan started in the industry after studying Fine Art Sculpture at St. Martins School of Art from 1984-1987
His first job was making puppets at Spitting Image. This led to various prop and model making jobs, including Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and working on the temple set on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, under Derek Howarth.
After moving into Television as an art director, Jonathan began his Production Design career. He designed the set for “Rory Bremner - Who Else?” For Channel 4, and became a Production Designer at the age of 26.
Jonathan also designed many Pop Promos, even creating a ‘frozen’ set for a performance by Madonna for Fuji TV.
Having then spent many years designing and creating some of TV’s most iconic studio sets, such as Ready Steady Cook, Can’t Cook Won’t Cook, Q.i, Mock the Week, Top Gear, Da Ali G Show and The Chase, Jonathan gradually moved into TV Drama and HETV.
Jonathan also spent many years designing award winning TV Comedy shows, such as Brass Eye, Smack the Pony and Green Wing (for which he was nominated for an RTS Production Design Award).
In 2013-2015, Jonathan worked in London and Los Angeles on the award winning TV series ‘Episodes’ starring Matt Le Blanc, Tamsin Grieg and Stephen Mangan.
In 2016 Jonathan designed the first series of Fleabag, written by and starring Phoebe Waller Bridge. He then collaborated with her again on the multi award winning series 2. On this series, Jonathan won Best Production Design in a Light Entertainment TV show at the British Film Designers Guild, as well as a coveted nomination at the Art Directors Guild Awards in America.
In 2018, Jonathan travelled to Fiji to design the TBS Comedy ‘Wrecked’ with Rhys Darby.
Jonathan has also has a long running collaboration with the Director Jim Field Smith, designing The Wrong Mans, Stag and Criminal:UK for Netflix.
In 2021, Jonathan worked on the hugely successful and multi award winning Atlanta Season 3
Working with Donald Glover and Director Hiro Murai, which shot in London, Paris and Amsterdam, and won much critical acclaim. Jonathan was nominated for a British Film Designers Guild award, and also the Set Decorators Society of America.
In 2022, Jonathan was the Production Designer on the action comedy feature film ’Sumotherhood’, written and directed by Adam Deacon.
In 2023, Jonathan designed the Channel 4 Drama ‘Truelove’ and also the CBS and Freevee show ‘Dinner With The Parents’
As well as HETV and Film, Jonathan has worked extensively in Comedy, Light Entertainment, Reality, Music, Reality, Children’s, Commercials, Short Films and Promos
Jonathan has also worked internationally, in the USA, Fiji, Austria, France, The Netherlands and across the UK.
As well as his Production Design career, Jonathan has also worked as an artist at The Icehotel in Sweden, along with his daughter Marnie, creating a number of Art Suites for their annual temporary ice hotel.
