Rui Pedro Sousa

Rui Pedro Sousa was born on August 24, 1986 in Aveiro, Portugal, to Fátima Sousa and Fernando Sousa, a construction worker. After finishing Highschool, he worked as a waiter at his uncle's restaurant in his hometown. Aiming to become a Film Director, he soon moved to the city of Oporto, in Portugal, to study cinema at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP), i.e., the Superior Studies School of Arts of Oporto. After completing his second year at ESAP, he interrupted his studies and joined the Production Company Lightbox Filmes, where he worked as a Motion Designer and VFX Artist for 8 years. While doing so, and with the mindset of becoming a Director, alongside working in Portuguese blockbusters, such as 'Balas & Bolinhos: O Último Capítulo ', as a visual effects artist, he gathered his friends to produce his first short film Tsintty (2013) during the weekends in 2012. In the next years, and accumulating the parts of writer and director, he signed the short film Limbo: A Small Measure of Peace (2016), or a trilogy of shorts, (Zombie, Awoken, and Whispers), that were combined into just one movie, Insanium (2018). These movies went to several film festivals around the world, winning some awards which included the "Rising Star Award" for Rui Pedro Sousa at the Canada International Film Festival. In 2016 he leaves Lightbox Filmes to move to London, in pursuit of his dream. During this period he met Ewa Habdas (Producer) and Vittorio Sala (Director of Photography), now his longtime partners in every movie he makes, namely the Insanium trilogy and the Comedy Short-Film George (2017), that were co-produced by Station Productions. Rui Pedro become a partner in Station Production since 2019. His first feature film as a Director and Co-Writer - Revolução (sem) Sangue - explores forgotten historical aspects of the famed Carnation Revolution, in 1974, which amazed the world due to its uncommon features.
